The Role of Supply and Demand in the Healthcare Economy

Nearly everyone in the United States—and the world as a whole—has now been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Everything from schools, to hospitals, to workplaces have been affected. Among the greatest impact seen has been the impact to the various lines of supplies in the medical field. Please review this article.

  • Share how the pandemic has had an impact in both the demand for, and supply of healthcare goods and services.
  • Describe the impact the supply chain disruption had on healthcare organizations in your own community in terms of financial impact, patient access and treatment decisions, or shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE) for essential healthcare personnel.

DIKW

Give an explanation of how theoretical models and the concepts of data, information, knowledge, and wisdom relate to evidence-based practice in nursing. You must include 3 references to support your explanations. Be specific and provide examples.

D.Saa Cultural Wk 2 Disc

Based on your clinical practice area and location. What are some of the greatest cultural issues and trends that are frequently encountered? How do we as professional nurses rise to these challenges? Provide examples of cultural recognition and potential health-related issues while implementing evidence-based standards of care

CASE STUDY: Active Labor: Susan Wong

Read the following case study and answer the reflective questions. Please provide evidence-based rationales for your answers. APA, 7th ed. Citations must be followed.

CASE STUDY: Active Labor: Susan Wong

Mrs. Wong, a first-time mother, is admitted to the birthing suite in early labor after spontaneous rupture of membranes at home. She is at 38 weeks of gestation with a history of abnormal alpha-fetoprotein levels at 16 weeks of pregnancy. She was scheduled for ultrasonography to visualize the fetus to rule out an open spinal defect or Down syndrome, but never followed through. Mrs. Wong and her husband disagreed about what to do (keep or terminate the pregnancy) if the ultrasonography indicated a spinal problem, so they felt they did not want this information.

Reflective Questions

1. As the nurse, what priority data would you collect from this couple to help define relevant interventions to meet their needs?

2. How can you help this couple if they experience a negative outcome in the birthing suite? What are your personal views on terminating or continuing a pregnancy with a risk of a potential anomaly? What factors may influence your views?

3. With the influence of the recent Human Genome Project and the possibility of predicting open spinal defects earlier in pregnancy, how will maternity care change in the future?

BMI

A 68-year-old client lives alone and is independent with all ADLs, has no restrictions for mobility, and is competent, and oriented x4. The client is on a fixed income, but has enough to manage a modest lifestyle. The client has family and social supports but is very independent and is proud of her self-reliance. The client’s height is 5’ 6”, weight is 210 lb. / 95.25 kg.

Please answer the following:

  • What is the client’s BMI?
  • Identify what screening tools you would use to assess nutritional and exercise knowledge, and why?
  • One Outcome/Intervention/Rationale:
    • Identify one outcome/goal that is reasonable, measurable and realistic. Identify 1 nursing intervention for the outcome and give rationale for the intervention.
  • Identify what weakness in the client’s life may be impacting the client’s activity and diet?
  • What referrals would you make and why?

(Use references for your responses, not just opinion.)

End of Life Care

Mr. Rivera is a 72-year-old patient with end stage COPD who is in the care of Hospice. He has a history of smoking, hypertension, obesity, and type 2 Diabetes. He is on Oxygen 2L per nasal cannula around the clock. His wife and 2 adult children help with his care. Develop a concept map for Mr. Rivera. Consider the patients Ethnic background (he and his family are from Mexico) and family dynamics. Please use the concept map form provided.

NURSING

Student Instructions for i-Human Virtual Simulation

NR325/NR330 Scott Baldwin

PURPOSE:

The following information is to be used in guiding your preparation and participation in the virtual simulation scenario for this course. This document will provide applicable course outcomes in preparation for your simulation.

SCENARIO OVERVIEW:

19-year-old male presents to the emergency department for a single episode of collapse with jerking and a loss of consciousness.

LEARNER OBJECTIVES:

1. Define the components of a focused nursing assessment. (CO1, 2)

2. Explain the approach for a focused nursing assessment for an adult brought to the emergency department, via ambulance, for a single episode of collapse with jerking and loss of consciousness. (CO1, 2)

3. Demonstrate an appropriate assessment for an adult brought to the emergency department, via ambulance, for a single episode of collapse with jerking and loss of consciousness. (CO1, 2, 3)

4. Distinguish between the treatment/interventions options for an adult brought to the emergency department, via ambulance, for a single episode of collapse with jerking and loss of consciousness. (CO1, 2, 4, 6)

5. Recommend appropriate treatment/interventions for an adult brought to the emergency department, via ambulance, for a single episode of collapse with jerking and loss of consciousness. (CO1, 2, 3, 4, 6)

6. Design an appropriate care plan for an adult brought to the emergency department, via ambulance, for a single episode of collapse with jerking and loss of consciousness. (CO1, 2, 4, 6)

STUDENT ROLES DURING SIMULATION:

You are the staff nurse at the hospital who will be conducting a comprehensive assessment. After completing your assessment, you are expected to document your findings as a nurses note in SBAR format.

KEY FEATURES OF i-HUMAN:

· As the nurse, you are expected to complete the case scenario using the following tabs: EHR, History, Physical, Nursing Notes, Summary

· There are required questions and/or additional information provided related to this case. The questions, information, and videos must be completed/reviewed prior to progressing to the next tab.

· Nursing Notes: At the end of the simulation, you will document your assessment findings using ISBAR.

CONFIDENTIALITY:

To preserve the educational value, integrity, and safety of the learning environment, you agree to maintain strict confidentiality about the proceedings of the simulation session, details of the training scenarios, and the performance of all participants. You acknowledge that this expectation aligns with the guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as well as laws governing Protected Health Information (PHI) in client care environments.  You will not view, discuss, share, record, or disclose any confidential information pertaining to the session. You understand that lapses in confidentiality are considered academic misconduct and could result in dismissal from the academic program.

FICTION AGREEMENT:

You will suspend judgment of realism for any given simulation in exchange for the promise of learning new knowledge and skills, treating the simulated patients with the same care due an actual patient, act with a genuine desire to learn even when it may be difficult to do so.

DUE DATE:

The virtual simulation must be completed during

Week 5
.

SIMULATION TIMING:

· Pre-simulation preparation: 30-60 minutes

· Pre-brief: 15 minutes

· Run Time: 2.75 hours

· Debriefing: 60 minutes

ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION

Faculty will utilize your participation measurements in the i-Human case, and debriefing discussions to identify areas of opportunity for enhancement of your clinical growth. Your experiences in i-Human will contribute to your overall completion of clinical requirements for the course as documented on the Clinical Learning Evaluation tool.
