PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE PLAN (PEP)

  • Review your Clinical Skills Self-Assessment Form you submitted last week and think about areas for which you would like to gain application-level experience and/or continued growth as an advanced practice nurse. How can your experiences in the practicum help you achieve these aims?
  • Review the information related to developing objectives provided in this week’s Learning Resources. Your practicum learning objectives that you want to achieve during your practicum experience must be:
    • Specific
    • Measurable
    • Attainable
    • Results-focused
    • Time-bound
    • Reflective of the higher-order domains of Bloom’s taxonomy (i.e., application level and above)

Note: Please make sure your objectives are individualized and outlined in your Practicum Experience Plan (PEP). While you may add previous objectives to continue to work toward. You must have 3 new objectives for each class, each quarter.

  • Discuss your professional aims and your proposed practicum objectives with your Preceptor to ascertain if the necessary resources are available at your practicum site.
  • Select one nursing theory and one counseling/psychotherapy theory to best guide your clinical practice. Explain why you selected these theories. Support your approach with evidence-based literature.
  • Create a timeline of practicum activities that demonstrates how you plan to meet these goals and objectives based on your practicum requirements.

LAST DISCUSSION

Go back to the discussion topic in Week 1 and review your discussion posts.

Have any of your thoughts or concepts of trends in nursing have changed since week 1.  Please share specific examples.

THIS IS WHAT I POSTED IN WEEK 1:

In my opinion when I think of nursing issues and trends, I think of the nursing staff shortages, increase in patient ratios, nursing advocacy, growth of telehealth, and advances in technology in the field.  In this present time, things are changing rapidly and with that comes change in the field as well.  An example is telehealth, which allows patients to have consults via phone/video with a medical professional.  Nurses are also exploring IT nursing with all these new technical advances.  Which brings to nurses also leaving the clinical setting for a nonclinical nursing career which leads to shortages in the hospitals with this growth of nonclinical nursing careers.

APPLYING INTERDISCIPLINARY THEORIES TO NURSING PRACTICE

To prepare: search the Walden University Library for at least two scholarly articles published within the previous 5 years on the assigned theory (health belief). Identify examples and insight for applying this theory to your practice issue. Consider how to explain your assigned theory and its applications to nursing practice and the specific issue you are addressing.

The assingment:

Post a brief description of your assigned theory (Health Belief)  and your nursing practice issue (im a psychiatric nurse so try to come up with a practice issue that happens in the psychiatric). Then, explain how you would apply your assigned theory to your practice issue and explain your reasoning. Be specific and provide examples. Cite your sources in your post. (at least 3 references)
