Explore several news sites to see how the story is framed.  Please review at least one liberal news source, one center news source, and a conservative news source.  You can use the chart in your lecture, or go to this Media BiasLinks to an external site. site. Compare and contrast how the story was framed between the three sources.  What part of the story did they focus on? Was there any messaging involved? The point of the is assignment is not to pontificate about your beliefs, but rather to be a dispassionate analyst about how the story is framed differently depending on who is framing it, and what messaging the writers/editors are trying to communicate..

PROFESSIONAL NURSING AND STATE-LEVEL REGULATIONS

Boards of Nursing (BONs) exist in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands. Similar entities may also exist for different regions. The mission of BONs is the protection of the public through the regulation of nursing practice. BONs put into practice state/region regulations for nurses that, among other things, lay out the requirements for licensure and define the scope of nursing practice in that state/region.

It can be a valuable exercise to compare regulations among various state/regional boards of nursing. Doing so can help share insights that could be useful should there be future changes in a state/region. In addition, nurses may find the need to be licensed in multiple states or regions.

WEEKLY RESOURCES

To Prepare:

· Review the Resources and reflect on the mission of state/regional boards of nursing as the protection of the public through the regulation of nursing practice.

· Consider how key regulations may impact nursing practice.

· Review key regulations for nursing practice of your state’s/region’s board of nursing and those of at least one other state/region and select at least two APRN regulations to focus on for this Discussion.

BY DAY 3 OF WEEK 5

Post a comparison of at least two APRN board of nursing regulations in your state/region with those of at least one other state/region. Describe how they may differ. Be specific and provide examples. Then, explain how the regulations you selected may apply to Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) who have legal authority to practice within the full scope of their education and experience. Provide at least one example of how APRNs may adhere to the two regulations you selected.

BY DAY 6 OF WEEK 5

Respond to at least
two of your colleagues
* on two different days and explain how the regulatory environment and the regulations selected by your colleague differ from your state/region. Be specific and provide examples.

Instructions: Read the following case study and answer the reflective questions. Please provide
evidence-based rationales for your answers. APA, 7th ed. must be followed.

Deadline: Due by Saturday at 23:59 p.m.

CASE STUDY: Preschool Child: Ricky

Ricky, age 4 years, arrives in the clinic with his mother. Ricky lives with his mother and father,
who both work full-time, and his infant sister. Their extended family lives in a different state
more than 100 miles away. Both parents are of average height and in good health. Ricky’s
mother mentions that Ricky often expresses frustration, particularly in regard to food. Conflict
over food occurs every day. Mealtime is a battle to get him to eat, unless his mother feeds him.
Ricky’s baby sister seems to tolerate all baby foods but requires her mother to spoon-feed.
Ricky’s mother is quite frustrated and concerned that he will become malnourished.

Reflective Questions

1. What additional assessment information would you collect?

2. What questions would you ask, and how would you further explore this issue with the
mother?

3. In what ways does the distance of the extended family influence this family’s approach

to health promotion?

4. What factors would you consider to determine whether malnourishment is a factor in
this family?

Screening is the administration of measures or tests to distinguish individuals who may have a condition from those who probably do not have it.  Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of screening.

Case Study

Read the following case study an answer the reflective questions. Please provide evidence based practice rationals for your answers with scholarly references no older than 5 years APA 7th ed needs to be followed.

CASE STUDY: Albert

Albert Mitchell is a 36-year-old man who will be traveling to Dubai to give a business presentation in 3 months. Although he has traveled widely in the United States as a consultant, this is his first trip to the Middle East.

He requests information regarding immunizations needed before his trip. Albert states that as he will be in Dubai for only a few days, he is unlikely to contract a disease in such a short time and therefore believes that it is illogical to obtain immunizations.

Albert states that he has heard that the side effects of the immunizations might be worse than the diseases they prevent. He is also concerned about leaving his wife at home alone because she is 6 months pregnant.

Reflective Questions

How would you address Albert’s beliefs?

What learning would be needed in each domain?

What learning theories would you consider?

How might his family concerns be addressed?
